Geomancy or Geometaphysics
Because Geomancy is a fairly obscure Art, I thought I should summarize the history and meaning of it before I get into my own brand. If you believe you already know what Geomancy is, then you may want to skip to here.
The word "geomancy" is literally "divination of the earth." It has generally been used in reference to an ancient form of divination which employs the scattering of pebbles, grains of sand, or seeds upon the earth for an interpretation of the resulting shape and position.
In the 19th century, geomancy came to be applied to the Chinese practice of Feng Shui (literally "wind and water") by which the location and orientation of houses and tombs was determined with close regard to the topography of the local landscape. The feng shui master's aim was to locate a site where the energies or ch'i of the land and sky were brought into perfect balance. The harmony of these energies ensured good fortune.
Feng Shui recognizes that certain powerful currents and lines of energy and/or magnetism run invisible through the landscape over the whole surface of the earth. The task of the modern geomancer is to detect these currents and interpret their influences on the land through which they pass. These days, it is claimed that such energy lines can be detected, and traced, through dowsing.
In the 1960s, the ley lines discovered by Alfred Watkins forty years earlier, came to be identified with the dragon lines of Chinese Feng Shui. This gave a whole new meaning to ley lines which now ceased to be simply straight tracks but in fact mapped on the surface of the landscape lines of energy coursing through the earth.
The presence of prehistoric sites - megalithic tombs, stone circles, standing stones - along ley lines - indicated that these energy currents were known in prehistoric times and that the sites did not merely mark the route but somehow also tapped into this energy source. Frequently, important prehistoric monuments occupy sites where two or more ley lines intersect.
Now, all of this is and is not what I have been involved with. I am blending the esoteric concepts of Geomancy with the science of Geophysics, hence my use of the term Geometaphysics. I am working with energies as well as physical angles, vectors and distances in order to see some of the background or inner-workings underlying what we experience on the surface of this sphere.
As I understand it, there are indeed ley lines running through the Earth and over her surface. These are lines of force, largely electromagnetic in nature. There are nodes of more concentrated power where ley lines intersect. This concentration can attract positive or negative energy, depending on the site and also... depending on how we associate with those sites. We are integral parts of a complex system. So is the Earth. We are not separate from each other. We in fact influence and affect each other and the Earth and she affects us. It's all one energy system and exchanges are perpetual.
For example:
I believe that the heavy California fault activity is largely the result of karmic return. The current of the Pacific Ocean moves in a clockwise circuit until it splits as it contacts the coast of Canada. Canada has been fairly neutral throughout history, neither adding to, nor receiving negative energies in any significant portion. In other words, there is no magnetic draw on the west coast of Canada as there is from the United States. What is being drawn is primarily a reverb from the devastation the US visited upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki which was undeniably mass destruction.
So, the flow of the Pacific Stream comes across to Canada but then splits. A reasonable percentage of this current curves upward (counterclockwise) to sweep by the Alaskan coastline. Alaska is also a major earthquake hazard zone, just like California, but since the population there is sparse, it's not publicized as much.
The bulk of the current sweeps the entire coastline of the US, particularly California AND makes a sharp turn in a wide path between Baja California and southern Mexico. This says to me that much of the 'sediment' gets deposited here in California and particularly in Southern California. The motion surely aggravates the underlying plate tension as well as silting heavy negativity into these wounds (fault lines). I believe the karmic attraction is strongest here and so the magnetic pull of the silt accomplishes that.
The Nevada desert, in which the bombs were designed and tested, is both a wound itself, being susceptible to further injury, AND an attractor for that which would pass by the California coastline in the ocean current. So in effect, the sediment is being drawn from the flow, even more so than just the sharp turn of the current might deposit naturally.
For a more specific tale and explanation of my experiences in these matters, read The Song of the Wood Thrush. Water plays a large role in where our emotion and energies are carried from and to. Also, the naming of a place can make it a focal point to which we knowingly or unknowingly ship our emotions and energies. It's all a very interactive system and we are quite powerful within it. I feel we should understand this better and learn to be better stewards of ourselves and our home, this beautiful Earth.
