Atlantis?! Yes. Throughout our recorded human history, Atlantis has been a rumor, a myth, a tale which would not die. That should make anyone suspect there is at least a grain of truth in it, else it would not persist for millenia. For the complete skeptic, it would be logical to at least contemplate the archetypes involved and wonder why we've held so tightly to such a dream, if it is only a dream... or nightmare. As always, one's perception is dependent on one's own focus. It might be interesting to consider who focuses on the fabled fantastic society of the Atlantean civilization, who focuses on its destruction, and who chooses to ignore it as complete nonsense. Believe it or not, I am a healthy skeptic, and if Atlantis IS just a fantastic and dramatic story, I believe we can still work with the implied aspirations for this world. The main implication is simply to continue without destroying each other and ourselves. It's such a sensible notion and as basic as our animal instinct for survival and preservation of our species...not our race or religious group or political body or social structure... our species. Thus it's quite puzzling that we've spent so many centuries trying to (re)learn it. We must find a way to stop the Us-versus-Them game. We've battled ourselves too long with it. We've tortured and killed each other because we haven't recognized that we're all Us, there is no Them. Even to the ends of the universe, we are all participants in Life. By the same connectedness, we humans cannot expect to destroy all life around us and still survive. Everything is related, pertinent, integral to our existence, and we must tend it in order to promote our own welfare. IF we would just acknowledge that we surely all ultimately hail from a single origin, regardless of the various mythologies; that we are all brothers and sisters, and that we are responsible for our Earth home, could we not live in harmony here? Somehow we can accept that everything came from one "God" or that the entire universe originated from one point... but we still do not acknowledge that we are all members of the whole whatever-it-is that exists now as a result. I'd vote for 'Atlantis' if it meant nothing more than getting people to toward that understanding. Maybe we just need a closer, more relevant, and physically verifiable clue of our innate brotherhood. Incidentally, a harmonious existence need not be a hearts-and-flowers mind-numbing 'peace' but a fully cooperative effort of right relations, between ourselves and with the planet. We could still play out all the drama we've spent in war and violence, but we could do it in synthetic ways, via virtual expression. In other words, we can learn to get everything we want, follow every urge and desire, without harm. We can savor the interactions between us, with or without physicality, simply by choice. Is this how Atlantis was? The details are sketchy, but if an Atlantean or other common civilization preceeded us, then surely we are seeing remnants in Ancient Egypt, in Central and South America (Aztecs, Mayans, Incas), in Tibet, ancient China, and other such dynasties. These may all have been inspired by the ghost of Atlantis, changed by time, environment, and variations of memory. Some may be built solely on selected aspects of an original whole, but all appear to be derivatives of the same urge to build. Bear in mind that archaeological and anthropological investigations show amazing similarities between some of these distant cultural groups, though they don't publicize it much. It appears to be the same ripple carrying into several pools and becoming more individualized in each. The striking similarities, across cultures and vast geography, suggest a single origin. As to whether that origin is Atlantis? Well, for now it's conjecture, but based on a very old and very persistent myth. Perhaps we are also seeing Atlantis echoed in the marvels of today. We are living in a very technological civilization with considerable knowledge of ourselves and everything around us, even beyond this planet. All the finery has not yet spread across the globe, but there are undeniably fantastic capabilities available to us. It is entirely possible that these ripples have at last come back to us again so we could note and develop them. We are surely accomplishing things differently, but we are in fact accomplishing. Now it's time to share these wonders all over the world. (If it seems impossible that humanity has reached this advanced level before, consider how long we have been here. More about this in "Logistics".) Honestly, I believe Atlantis IS rising. It is who and what we are, here and now. It has been here all along. We may all be survivors of the devastation, and we've been rebuilding for several thousand years. It has been relatively quick. Very little time passed in our progression from scratching pictographs on stone to writing our thoughts in electrons and shipping them across the planet. We can control portions of our environment with precision or set aside places to simply enjoy the natural world. We can build in steel and stone, or virtuality. We can draw energy from air, water, vegetation, minerals, and sunshine. We can simulate or capture what we're viewing and/or hearing and share it across the globe in seconds, with one other person or millions. We can sometimes heal with no more than light. Unfortunately, we can also kill with the same ease. We are even now about to (re)learn the essence of energy and matter. It's only a matter of time, and it won't be nearly as long as it has been. We're also a bit more practiced at dealing with the whole physical Earth realm, and we truly needed that education. Now, imagine the aforementioned expansive historical dynasties and ideals with broader power and knowledge than we have today, not so much in our scientific context, but in the context of our connection to all things and all energies within the Universe. I believe this is the part we have forgotten. In our efforts to understand physicality better, we have lost sight of all the power in the non-physical, that is, beyond matter and our five senses. Recognition (or remembrance) of this is what some call transcendence or awakening. What could we do if we consciously acknowledged the power of intent/will and emotion? In fact, what could we and would we do with just a fuller understanding of electromagnetism and light? These things are still mostly mysteries to us, but we're working on them. I'm sure that some are worried about such expansion, fearing corruption. In the days of Atlantis, with monumental power and knowledge, there was surely corruption, but for the most part it is proclaimed to be the fantasy we might imagine. And in the world today? There are virtually no limits, but we seriously must be good stewards throughout. This is merely adherence to and respect for natural laws which we have often tried to ignore and thus been booted by our own ignorance. We must also finally recognize that the disposition of each individual is intrinsically tied to the disposition of all, and visa versa. Despite the echoes which may have carried forward and the advances which may have resurfaced, we are not simply repeating an exact Atlantis cycle. Each time a cycle recurs, we change it, because we are changed. The game board and the players are never static. We have learned that there is such a thing as too much control or that we can crush ourselves under the delusion of control. We have learned some important lessons about the pitfalls of hierarchical structure or a rigid classifying system. We've been learning to value ALL and recognize differences without judging what is lesser or greater. We need to act on this, in all aspects of life on this little rock and as we venture into our Solar System. Everything is pertinent to the whole picture. We are all pertinent to the whole picture... no matter what we call it or where and how we think it originated. Next in Sequence Select From Menu |
