Messed Up

The language of religion (and even spirituality, more generally), often segments, divides, creates factions where there should be none. This is indeed a problem. The even larger problem is the result of these verbal constructs.

What is it about some segments of humanity that makes it necessary to set themselves apart but allow no equals? (Can we say 'ego'?) The very same persons who would never accept being told they are wrong, are telling everyone different from themselves that they are wrong. They feel compelled to convert others (ie, save those who are not lost, merely different). In the past, they often just killed them. They still do on some fronts. It's so amazing to me that this is even possible when these same groups look to a higher power for compassion and understanding. In fact, they often commit their acts in the name of this power. I don't understand that AT ALL. Non sequitur.

"Do unto... Do unto..."

Most of the human inhabitants of Earth carry beliefs that allow for others to have different beliefs. That is, 'most' by population, unfortunately not by military might or by socio-political or economic power. (Maybe this is a hint.)

I'm not aware of any good reason to go out and drum up business for God. He needs sales agents? a pusher? If people are seeking, they shall find. Many of the 'lost' are already attuned to the cycles of the Earth, the Universe, and Life... until they are 'saved', then of course, they are taught shame, and enlightened to their own inherent wickedness. Yes, this is so helpful.

Practices like Door-to-door Religion or Feed 'em Rice and Stuff 'em with Scripture... would seem to me to be snatching people from their own path and dragging them onto another. Has it occurred to anyone that the reason charity for godliness is pushed in the literature might be because we're too selfish to do such kindnesses otherwise, like, just for the compassion of it? I think that it's not intended to give us hints on how to hook people.

We are fascinating creatures of infinite variety and colorful complexity. Only overblown egotism could possibly make any of us think that one narrow, culturally-biased, concept of God could fit us All and of course only a very small percentage are possessed of the sacred knowledge of who He really is, what He really wants, and they are charged with the mission to blanket (smother) the world in it, while they themselves admit to being woefully imperfect and falling short of godliness.

"I mess up, but you need to be messed up like me, because if you're messing up in some OTHER way, well, then you're in a really big mess!"

Unless we step back and draw the picture large enough to encompass ALL THAT IS, then our sketch is too small. It's distorted. There is plenty of leeway within the wholeness of an infinite universe for a God of any name and face or no name and face at all.

OUR obstacle in this endeavor to unify, is to get ALL the factions to recognize that ALL the factions are legitimate, valid, acceptable. The only exceptions from a universal standpoint would be those who destroy and even those will meet their own ends without our interference.

Truthfully, just as one cannot legislate morality, one cannot dictate tolerance. So, we shall have to work at it by expanding the light to roll back the shadows. Just like the expansion of the universe itself, let it begin with one and ripple out from there. Cherishing our own core of light, while appreciating the beauty of distinct light from others, is the way.

Sorry to keep harping on that message but it is a most important message.
