I believe in inherent properties. I believe in transferred or
stored properties. I believe in symbolic properties. (properties,
power, vibrations, resonances, whatever) I have a hard time
believing that an object can influence a spirit without the consent
of that spirit and ignorance would not be consent. Even a chair is
not a chair, for me, unless I am willing to accept it as a chair.
The grey area is when the spirit may be cognizant of such properties and effects, but the conscious ego/personality is not. Only the spirit has the option (and responsibility) of consent in this case. At such time when the conscious ego/personality becomes aware of influences from an object or another person, then it is once again a choice, a conscious choice... to consent or not. I also believe that honest intent counts above action. If a person carries a particular rock in his pocket because he feels it's good luck for him, then it is a talisman of fortune for him. He has imbued it with this symbolism. Even if the rock was once used to strike another man dead, I think the fellow carrying it in his pocket for luck would not be influenced by the other 'vibration' unless his spirit had a reason to accept it or call upon it. After all, the man is not aware of the rock's stored properties. If he is, that changes the whole dynamic. Maybe the luck is manifested as the man needs something for defense and throws the rock at an attacker. Maybe the rock's own vibrations assist in this defense, based on its own history. Or maybe the man who carries it for luck can counterbalance the 'bad' vibes by associating 'good' vibes with the object. If rendered neutral in this way, the rock may never provide fortune other than to help the man feel fortunate. Still a benefit, in my book. But would a man, innocently picking up a rock which had been used in deadly force, then be led to kill? I don't see it. Then again, I accept that whatever happens must happen for a reason, even when I don't like it, even when I would love to be let in on the joke or plan. I wouldn't blame it on an object. 06.29.2001 |
