Citizenship

For me, the higher self, the self within, is that part of each of us which can feel love and compassion beyond family and close friends, extending to all mankind, animal kind, plants, rocks, planet, everything. There is a voice of conscience, but not just recitation from training. It's a sincere knowledge and understanding that what we do can ripple through all of us. The wee small voice also encourages us to express ourselves in our uniqueness.

Our higher self recognizes that we are a part of something bigger than the individual and yet each of us are fully empowered individuals within it, comprising it (at least by my beliefs).

My higher self knows more than I consciously comprehend because my physical earthly self is merely a facet, an extension of my citizenship in the Universe. With awakening, meditation, and faith/belief or knowing, I glimpse that greater part of me. I connect with my whole, higher self and All That Is. I begin to experience the subtle energies at work which I had no notion of before. I've personally found that emotional energy provides the strongest linkage. Contact becomes easier and can be sustained longer with continued practice.

I've learned that to go within is the way to reach out, reaching out farther than I would have imagined possible, reaching out into infinity and feeling completely at home there, here, anywhere. I believe this is because within the physical me, my brain, my mind, is the channel through which I communicate with my higher self, my own full spirit, and ultimately connecting to the collective consciousness of the Oneness in which we all participate.

I don't experience this all the time yet, but when I do it is the most marvelous feeling of belonging yet maintaining my identity. I wish everyone could feel it, always. I trust that eventually we will.
