Progress
In my case, what led up to my actual awakening was a slow and gentle nudge. Looking back, it was rather logical too and this makes sense as logic greatly appeals to me. I not only see the gradual awakening in my life but I see it as it applies to human civilization on this plane. As part of this easy awakening, I was making progress before I realized I was even on the path of soul work. It was sort of like teasing, enticing me to look a little harder through the dense undergrowth and practice recognition of signs when they appeared. The trail markers started to add up; they became clearer and I saw that I was on my way. It felt right. Others who may have felt they were dumped on the road, eventually come to realize as I have, that it happens the way it needs to for each spirit, each time. We are not really solitary pioneers on isolated paths. We're all part of the same workings within the Universe and so we're interconnected in ways I can't even begin to comprehend yet. But I believe that humanity has been brought along as I was, slowly progressing until more and more souls can awaken. As more souls awaken, I feel that the progress picks up speed. Doesn't this make sense? If we're all working within the same machine, then wouldn't more power mean more output? I believe we will continue to make progress, faster and faster, until we all eventually arrive at the same point... and then what? I don't know yet, but I will thrill to be there and in the meantime, I'm enjoying the journey. So let's look more closely at this in terms of human civilization. Again, this is how I view it. It makes sense to me this way. If this explanation doesn't suit you, devise your own. Exercise your free will. Maybe this will at least give some folks a little food for thought. I don't think that my theory is all that revolutionary. When a person's waking hours are consumed with shelter, food, protection, family, etc then he cannot afford to stop and ponder his existence. The purpose of his existence IS to continue to exist. To do this, he must spend every waking hour consumed with shelter, food, protection, family, etc. Eventually, with the growth of families and cooperation and specialization or redistribution of labor, each person's day becomes less the dawn-to-dusk search for food, shelter, yadda yadda. There is time to sit and ponder. But what is considered in these moments of leisure? Early on, it was how to make fire where needed or how to get water from the stream to the cave. You see where I'm going here. So, we come down through the millenia and we've got most of our basic needs handled but we've decided we want more than that and so we work to buy, to be more comfortable and have more enjoyable lives between working and buying, and so on. For the vast majority of humans, our waking hours are still consumed with the work of living, albeit it in much more physical comfort, pleasure, and for longer generations than our cave-dwelling ancestors. For most other creatures, it is still business as usual at the tasks of shelter, food, protection, family, etc. Let us consider the real progress of souls which began only a few centuries ago, well, maybe a few millenia. Individuals began to make the time to contemplate more than survival. Some did so at risk to their lives and many died in their attempts to see more than survival and to share what they were seeing. Still, throughout recorded history, more and more of the dreamers and schemers and soul journers sprang up. Some formed cults or religions. Some spawned politics. Some tried to define our marvelous universe and all its wonders. Some managed to harness powers we can only marginally understand. In a few cases, monsters were created, both human and otherwise. All of it is progress. Everything over and above survival is progress in some form, on some level. We are beings of free will and once we claw and scratch or get kicked over the plateau of survival, we all reach to do something more, to exercise that free will. If survival is the basic necessary work, then all else is progress. If survival is the self-perpetuating status quo, then any action beyond that is progress, good or bad. It makes us more than just creatures who live until they die. Exploring is progress. Learning is progress. Even just having a sense of wonder is progress. Contemplating who we are... is progress. Nothing without a soul does this. We know that We have been. We know that We are. We hope and expect that We shall continue to be and furthermore, the vast majority of Us want to be better. Now in my case, again, I have been fortunate. I gradually gained more and more leisure time so I had more time to contemplate above and beyond survival. I was not so bound up by the workaday world and the hectic schedule of basic living. I gradually gained more freedom and leisure time over a couple of decades. In the last few years, I've been completely free to pursue my own personal endeavors and I have awakened. I am so very fortunate that I can never express my gratitude enough. There are reasons why I think I'm so blessed but I'll cover that later. Those who are not as fortunate, but have awakened, will still spend every possible moment trying to get into the stream of the universal energy. I fear they may find it slow going, but it depends on the soul. The rate at which souls journey and learn is different for every soul, ever. Longer and easier physical lives would seem to add momentum to our soul endeavors so, added to the growing numbers of spirits awakening, we are in a speeding geometric progression... of progress.
