Wenn & Wolf Tales

Wenndolyne

Wenndolyne is a lithe Irish lass about 5ft 7in tall with dark sapphire eyes, skin like fine bone china and thick, light auburn hair flowing down the back of what she usually wears, a simple gown. She carries a purple velvet pouch of enchanted stones on a silver braid about her waist. Wenn has seen only twenty-three summers but has practiced many things, though mastered few. She is certainly friendly with everyone she meets but is especially fond of children, animals, and other wee folk. She gives them her attention and affection generously whenever possible. Wenn's philosophy of life is to help others enjoy their lives without diminishing her own and in fact enriching it. It costs nothing to be kind and the rewards are often monumental.

Wenn's Background

Wenndolyne's father, now deceased, wanted a son to inherit his keep and land holdings, yet moreover to train as archer, for archery was her father's best and most loved skill. Instead he saw to it that Wenn not only learned to handle a bow but had a fine formal education as well. Despite her father's training, Wenn will not fight if any other option is available, preferring to out wit or even out run an opponent. Upon her father's passing, his keep went to a male cousin, Lerrad, though Wenn received a tidy sum as compensation. She has used this and the stones to pay her passage, room and board while traveling about in the nomadic way of the Stone Warren. Wenndolyne's mother died in childbirth but passed on a legacy to make Wenn the 7th generation of women in her line to practice the Way of Stones. Wenn must occasionally journey to study with the Stone Warden. The members of the Stone Warren originally hailed from the Emerald Isle. Wenn herself is five generations removed from the isle of her ancestors.

The Way of Stones

Wenndolyne inherited her mother's purple velvet pouch of stones, but hasn't any idea what most of them are for. The original set of stones was a beautiful collection of precious and semi-precious gems. Wenn has a tattered book of spells & prayers in the Way of Stones but the language is archaic and she has not yet been able to make much sense of it. She collects gems and even interesting rocks in case the Book of Stones has a purpose for them. Without her mother's guidance, Wenn depends mostly on the stones themselves to tell her what is needed and when. The precious gems to common stones in Wenn's possession have been enchanted toward some need or other. When in need, she merely opens the pouch and sifts through the stones. The most useful stone for the occasion will present itself to the top of the heap for her. In touching the stone she is somehow given the knowledge to use it. She no longer questions this. It simply is.

Fortunately, Old Uncle Medric, a sorcerer in his day and now gone, enchanted Wenn's stone pouch. Otherwise it would be the size of a horse and weigh as much. Wenn easily carries the pouch since for her it is small and weighs little. If taken from her by some would-be jewel thief, the pouch enchantment is suspended and it suddenly takes on its actual size and weight. Even on her person, it can only be opened by Wenn's hand. Medric gave Wenn the only true spells she knows. They are two. One allows her to bequeath the pouch to another and convey the pouch's properties to the control of the new owner. The other allows her to remove the pouch and set it aside, still small and light, still locked except for her touch. Wenn is not a magic user, though she is a natural conduit for magic power... but that's another tale.
