HOW THE CHARACTER IS INVOLVED IN THE STORY
CHARACTER’S ROLE IN THE NOVEL/STORY (MAIN CHAR, HERO, HEROINE,
ROMANTIC INTEREST, ETC):
Main character and heroine though Wenn would never see herself as either. Story is told not from her point of view, but by her timeline and most events would affect her life in some way, even
peripherally
SCENE WHERE CHARACTER FIRST APPEARS:
1st scene, entering Camelot, then meeting Simon, etc
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER CHARACTERS:
(CHARACTER’S NAME, DESCRIPTION OF RELATIONSHIP WITH THIS CHAR AND CHANGES TO THAT RELATIONSHIP OVER THE COURSE OF THE NOVEL/STORY – LIST 4 OR 5, MORE IF APPROPRIATE)
In order of appearance:
- Simon: first little friend, then little brother type, then son
- Poet: first love interest
- Wolf: first (and only) true love, soulmate, husband, father to children, etc
- Lerrad: cousin – his mother and Wenn’s father were siblings (need continuity check on this. Wynne can have no siblings per Cuin`Kraath tale)
- Elspeth – friend first then cousins when she and Lerrad married
- Quietus – brother-in-law and for a time, lover, in Wolf’s stead (woohoo big mess THERE)
- Elandra – daughter, only child by birth
- Rachel – nanny to Elandra mostly, help with Simon on occasion
- Others: Gorath (help to Wenn as wolf leader of the Pack); Night^Kat (scribe and helper); Chamberlain/Chancellor (helper with estate and confidant at times); Uncle Medric [the Grey] (not her uncle by blood but she didn’t know that while he was alive, helped her father raise her, particularly in matters of magic)
HOW THE CHARACTER IS DIFFERENT AT THE END OF THE NOVEL/STORY FROM WHEN IT
BEGAN:
She will have come through all the fires mostly unscathed if for no other reason than she believes that things always work out . She expects to die of old age (not knowing how to think of magical immortality). She hopes she will look last upon the face of her Love, Lord Wolf, and rest in peace in the hereafter (whatever that may be) knowing that her children and their children, etc will do well on their own. She will hope that her presence will have been found useful and positive, but has no expectation of leaving a big mark on the world. She knows it was there before her and shall remain after she has left it.
ADDITIONAL NOTES ON THIS CHARACTER:
cannot swim
Othala is the old hag-like lady who cared for Siobhan, then Manxra and was still around when Wenn began to go to the Stone Warren gatherings
Wenn's Ancestry - (her mother's line):
From Cuin`Kraath and Siobhan to Manxra to Reidahn to Marghein to Blaithan to Ardala to Wynne.... to Wenndolyne. Making her the 7th daughter in the line from Ciahban and Elandra the 8th.
PERSONAL INTERVIEW WITH CHARACTER
(responses in his/her own voice)
((I took this literally and responded as if Wenn were sitting with some
person asking questions about her.))
OCCUPATION:
I am the Lady of WolfKeep, wife to my beloved Wolf, mother to my little love
Simon and angel Elandra. I am also a Guardian of Camelot and currently Justice of the Court of Camelot. Mercy, sounds like I’m someone important when said all together like that. Well, I’m not really. There’s just much to be done and I’m pleased to help as I can. My husband, son and daughter are my biggest and grandest responsibilities though.
CURRENT HOME:
Lord Ancient Wolf’s Keep is quite grand but it’s just home to us. I first
thought it too large and lofty but I’ve come to feel how cozy it is. Family in a home has a way of doing that, doesn’t it? We welcome visitors, travelers and such, who find us on their journeys. Thanks to Lord Wolf’s generosity, we are able to treat them all with fine hospitality, I think. Tis our hope at any rate.
MARITAL STATUS:
Married, of course, but then I mentioned that, didn’t I?
CHILDREN:
Ah, my little love Simon who is growing into a young man so quickly, even as
his sister is growing too fast to suit me. Simon is adopted heir to Lord Wolf but I swear to you I could love him no more than it I gave birth to him myself. He is bright and cheerful and such a fine help and comfort to me. Then my angel, Elandra… She has her father’s eyes and no doubt his powers, but she may also have something of my meager gifts. I hope I can help her enjoy the world around her, without or without the use of magic. It’s just so much a part of my children’s lives. I hope they see there are equal wonders in the mundane.
FAVORITE FOOD:
Favorite food? Oh. Um. Hm. Anything Jaede prepares is delicious. Actually anything someone else prepares is fine. I am not a very good cook.
FAVORITE PERFORMER/AUTHOR/SPORTSMAN ETC:
I do enjoy Jaelyn’s playing in the firehall. Also Poet, Sir Poet that is, I
miss his readings and singing there as well. We’ve wonderful musicians in
Camelot. For art, Yandora’s tapestries are a marvel but nothing one can compare to my Simon’s drawings. While some are not perhaps perfect representations, they are all precious, every single one. Lady Xan has a beautiful singing voice as well and… what is that young girl’s name, OH, Ariadne, I believe. She is quite a skilled minstrel.
EVERY NEW YEAR’S I RESOLVE TO…
Make it to the next and see that my family gets through to it as well. What more can one wish for? While every year may not be easy or kind to us, each one that we survive well is a gift, no?
NOBODY KNOWS I AM…
Wenndolyne would likely never tell this of herself. Only Nightshade and the
Necromancer know. Nightshade wrote to Lord Wolf and hinted to an incident
earlier in Wenn’s life, but gave him no real details. Wenn was attacked by a
brigand on the road, at the age of 15. He accosted her, stabbed her brutally and left her to die. Had it not been for Nightshade finding her, she would have bled to death there on the side of the road. Had it not been for the Necromancer, the scarring and such damage as the attacker exacted, would have left Wenn unable to carry a child.
I WISH I COULD STOP…
What I would wish, for myself, is that I… that I could see my way clear of
needing Wolf so. I know he has duties elsewhere. He has higher purposes and so I must abide and stay here to see to our children and the Keep, to the Pack and other business. I just wish… that I didn’t need him quite so much and miss him so badly while he’s away.
I'M A SUCKER FOR…
Oh I am so fond of children and wee creatures. I think they could convince me of anything for I have a soft spot in my heart, and maybe my head, for all things that that smaller or weaker or seem less able to fend for themselves. Someone must care for them and besides, are not all wee folk just wonderful? Their perspective is always fresh and new and welcome to me.
THE WORST PART OF MY LIFE IS…
My beloved Wolf being so oft away.
I WANT TO TEACH MY CHILDREN THAT...
As before, I say that despite the thick thread of magic in their lives, I so
want them to see the natural beautiful of this world and their own presence in it. That is true magic to me, to find one’s place in this life or to make a place for one’s self where you can feel comfortable and content.
A GOOD TIME FOR ME IS…
Oh, in the arms of my Love, with our children playing about us or just the two of us, perhaps walking in the gardens, under the moon or maybe running freely through the forest in my Love’s shadow. Aye, those times have been the best.
THE WORST ADVICE THAT MY FATHER/MOTHER/PARENT(S) GAVE ME WAS…
"Learn to use the bow. Everyone needs a method of defense." He was correct of course about needing defense but honestly I have found little use for the bow in my life. Besides, in such an instance where I might need it, I am certain I might just as likely shoot myself with it or put out my own eye from being too frightened to use what he spent so much time teaching me. Still, we enjoyed that time together, so twas not all loss.
I THOUGHT I WAS GROWN UP WHEN…
Aah, I have thought this many times and been proven that I have still so much to learn. There are a few instances where I thought I took a great stride forward, only to be knocked back off my feet again. I think I will never feel I have grown up, not in the sense that I have knowledge and experience to face just anything.
WHEN I FEEL SORRY FOR MYSELF I…
My tower has been a comforting place to gather myself and my thoughts, the north tower in the Keep, I mean. The central tower is Lord Wolf’s and I do not go there lest he take me. In my tower, I oft stand in the open window and let the air flow through me. My thoughts and feelings seem to be lifted somewhat, anger cooled, fears soothed. I also sit before the hearth and write in my journal at such times. Ere long, I usually have what strength I need to continue what I must do, who I must be.
NOBODY WOULD BELIEVE IT IF THEY SAW ME…
Oh mercy you are taunting with these questions and I cannot imagine why I tell you this but... I like the way the stained glass patterns fall across my skin after my bath, so I fear I tarry there in bright morning or midday just to play in the colors. Promise me though that you’ll nae tell another soul! Oh and... sometimes I think most folks believe I am perpetually happy. This is not always so. No one can be happy all the time, eh?
MY FRIENDS LIKE ME BECAUSE…
I do my best to be a good and trusted friend. I share no confidences without
permission. I do what I can when there is need or want of help. I cannot imagine treating anyone in any way except as I would wish to be treated in turn. So, perhaps it is because I strive to BE a friend that folks find me useful in that way. I do hope so. I do try. Otherwise, tis their own gracious spirits that permit me such honor.
MY PET PEEVE IS…
Simon and food, comes to mind. I end up laughing at him, for it can be a humorous sight, but honestly I think more goes out than in… at least it was so at one time. He seems to have outgrown the habit. I do hope his sister learned nothing of it from him.
MY MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT HAS BEEN…
Oh, that would be my angel, Elandra. Twas a miracle that I could bring her
into this world. Would that her father could have been with us for the event, but in a way, I can feel more responsible for it, because of his absence. I had so long thought… well… that would be THE accomplishment of my life, if choosing only one, the birth of my healthy beautiful daughter and living to see her grow up, even if it is too fast to suit her mother.
I CAN DIE HAPPY WHEN…
I don’t think much on death, particularly my own. I assume I will pass on, but honestly, I intend to see that my children are well into their own happy lives and after that, I hope to be near, to enjoy watching them. Also an eternity with Wolf would be... well... Let us say I intend to be here for a very long time and with the aid of Wolf's magic, I imagine I will be.
I'D REALLY RATHER…
I’d really rather stop answering questions now. Have you any more? Wouldn’t you like a tea or perhaps an ale or maybe you would care to try some hot buttered rum, hm?
MY MOST HUMBLING EXPERIENCE WAS…
Oh. I think that would have to be Poet, dear Sir Poet, he had the strength to take the gauntlet and leave us. He did a selfless thing. I am not certain I could have done that. There was no other solution, I suppose. It settled things for all, save him. I was not then aware of what a gift he had given me, for had Poet not done such an honorable deed, I would not have come to love Lord Wolf, I would not likely have Simon as my son and I would not have Elandra. Still, even with what I knew at the time, it was a humbling thing for I saw an act that was greater than I think I myself would have the courage to commit.
