DEFINITIONS:
On this page: Rough Note Files: Shape Shifting This is essentially the exchange of a physical shell which an individual (personality/entity) inhabits. It's best described in the scene where Wolf teaches Wenn to do it --- wwe0310. There are psychological rammifications from shapeshifting because the physical form itself has certain tendencies which influence the actions and reactions of the entity within. This is necessary so that the entity can manage and function within the otherwise 'foreign' body, being so different from the entity's natural form, whatever that is. Generally, shapeshifting means the use of living forms, although some have made exceptions and the essence of a person can be captured in an object. However, doing this to oneself would be tricky to reverse, as an essentially inanimate thing. Back to the Definition List Wolf's Magic He makes use of the magical energy weave around the world, particularly the strong leylines which crisscross to make the weave. A junction of two or more leylines is called a node. These are extremely powerful points, being a focused gateway through which one can tap a great deal of energy. With focus, intent and concentration, a magic user can tap into the power/energy and use it to manifest effects or objects, etc. There may be residual impact on the magic user, requiring a rest period or other recuperation after exposure to and control of such power. Spoken spells, runes, sigils and other gimmicks are optional for the initiated. They may however be useful aids for focusor intent, which is the true directing force. Amulets and other objects may be imbued with magical properties that may be invoked by non magic users. The specifics depend on what the magical properties are, who stored them there, how they were stored, and what requirement was set to trigger them. Incidentally, Wenn is a rather powerful conduit for magical energy. Wolf and likely other sage magic users would recognize this right away. Of course, Wenn has no idea until Wolf explains it to her in her recapture from Quietus at the Dark Keep. Even then, she doesn't really understand the full implications. Back to the Definition List The Way of Stones Most all the stones in Wenn's pouch are endowed with a specific magical property or capability. The Way of Stones is the lore by which this is done and, for most in the Stone Warren, it's their method and philosophy on how to use them. But, Wenn had no training in the Way of Stones. She trusts the power of them and she has grown comfortable with her method of sifting through them until the useful stone(s) slip into her hand. At that time, she 'hears' or knows how it may be applied. She knows that not everyone would get this effect from her stones, but she really has no clue as to how it works. In the "Discovery" series, she at least finds out that her heritage is what so closely links her with the stones and with magic. Back to the Definition List Simon's Wish Magic Basically, if he can think it up, he can do it, providing he has the power available. Presumably there are limits to this brand of magic, but it works for some as naturally as breathing. Wish magic uses the same power source as Wolf's magic, tapping into the magical weave and such. However, there is little to no thought given to the method, only the outcome. Because of this, the power is generally weaker. Wish magic does not take advantage of the power points like nodes and leylines. It depends heavily on the suspended ether or free floating energy within the environment. Magical energy IS everywhere. It's just more concentrated in certain pathways and locations. But, if someone is naturally gifted with wish magic ability, then the ambient energy surrounding them will coalesce to give them what they wish for, sometimes with unexpected results! The difference between Wish Magic and other, is primarly knowledge/training and control. Wish Magic may also be referred to as Wild Magic. Back to the Definition List The Mother & The Children - brief overview The Mother is a sentient being of pure magical energy. She did not create this world but sought to give life to this rock and beautify it. To do so, she split part of herself into beings of her creation, her Children. She then left this world and later returned to find many viscious and destructive power struggles going on. In answer, she established a 'panel' of entities which most have come to call "The Powers That Be." They are disembodied sentient energies and intended to help maintain the all important Balance, because teetering too far in any direction would either make this world a dismally harsh place or tediously boring. The Children apparently needed incentives and consequences. After another absence from this world and returning again to find upheaval, the Mother finally took up residence here. She wrapped and filled this world with her magical energy, creating the weave of leylines and ambient energy. She is the sentience of Mother Earth and able to appear to individuals, especially her Children, as need be. She does not dictate actions but offers guidance and support now and then, just as one might expect from a wise parent. She realized that she must be everpresent to do this.
